Has anyone read Hamish McDonald's 'The Gravy Star'?

OK! it's a Scottish novel about a guy called Farchar McNab who takes sanctuary in Botanic Gardens Station. His retreat from the post indusrtrial society that surrounds him, but he has to face up to his past!. This is a story of love, dreams and realisation in the 21st century. Any one who has visited the Botanics will relate to this book (there is a slight tendency to artistic licence) but the puritans (pedants Etc) will be able to deduce fact from fiction. Enjoy.

Another book that features the Botanics, and the lead character living in caves beneath the gardens, is "Masel" by Mark Smith (Glasgow: Taranis, 1992). Mark is now a business journalist on The Herald.

Another "cultural production" featuring people living under the Botanics, which is obviously a powerful metaphor for some people, is the Tron Panto "Babes in the Wood" by Victor (or possibly Barry).

Any one remember Victor and Barry, and the Kelvinside Young People's Amateur Dramatic Association (KY Pad Ass for short, if I recall)?

Best, Ronnie
