Port Dundas - Hundred Acre Hill

Postby toomse » Mon Mar 09, 2009 1:26 pm

While browsing the route of the St Enoch burn I came across an area of Port Dundas called Hundred Acre Hill

On this map (section V1.7.11) has a Hundred Acre Dairy

I wonder if there’s an anomaly with the Mitchell Library reference to the song “The Dairy Maids of Hundred Acre Hill” attributed to the Kings Park area of Glasgow or where there two Hundred Acre Hills?

There was defo a Hundred Acre hill at Kings Park. Indeed the local pub is named 'the Hundred Acres' after it.

100% agreed - it was just to the north of the existing Kings Park Avenue - it's clearly indicated on the old maps website (www.old-maps.co.uk).

Spent quite a while yesterday browsing round old maps but the only reference I came across was for a Hundredacre Park.

from 1858 Hundred Acre Hill Dairy, Port Dundas was owned, or co owned, by Robert Harvey of John and Robert Harvie owners of Dundas Distillers. They were part of the family that also owned John and William Harvey, Yoker Distillers.
