A colleague brought this in to work
McPhuns Guide Through Glasgow 1833 edition

It’s very small and fragile (3” x 5”)
Not sure how rare it is but has some interesting stories

I’m very intrigued by this boat. Done a wee search on Google and found reference to this and another similar boat found some years earlier whilst cutting a sewer in the Stockwell. See HERE

I’m wondering what happened to the boats, were they preserved?

I seem to remember seeing preserved boats in one of the museums when I was younger, cant remember what one but that was possibly them.
A really interesting old book I came across was in Stirling Uni library when i was looking for books for class last year. basicaly, if i remember correctly, it was from the 1860s, and some guy had gone round the elderly residents of Glasgow and recorded stories they told him of Glasgow when they were young and things they had heard from their parents about places. Only got a brief look at it, but the pages I read were full of interesting info, have always meant to go back find it again.

The Kelvingrove before renovation had a dusty dugout canoe hanging from the ceiling, with a hand-lettered sign reading "Canoe found in the River Clyde". No idea where it is now.

Is this Tontine Lane?

I think JohnR is almost certainly right, toomse. It was up a lane in the Trongate/Glasgow Cross region.

Looking at the map above shows that the boat was found adjacent to where Tontine Lane is now which is why I asked. The tiles also look very familiar.

I used to work in an office which had a nice view of Tontine Lane.

would have thought if it had been located up a lane it would have been trashed by neds within 5 minutes

I remember the basement of the hardware store that used to be on the corner had areas of exposed white tiles at the back

Yes, you'd think, wouldn't you?

It was taken during the last Festival of Light, so it may have been a temporary installation. I have a notion I saw it again recently, but I may well be mistaken.

It looks as if it is pretty high up near the ceiling of the pend.
