Britannia Music Hall

Following the CGI Glasgow thread, and the suggestion of virtually restoring the Britannia Music Hall, I made a little visit down there last week.

Amazing place! I'll have access to the Hall pretty much any time to take reference photos and I've already started work on the facade of the building. Which hopefully you'll recognise from the images below.

Modelled so far...
...1st floor only, from the east.

...1st and 2nd floors from the west.

The rest over the next few days.

I'll take this opportunity to promote the good work of the Trust in getting the old girl back to her feet, and hopefully we can support them with a bit of free publicity.

As a matter of interest Rosco, what 3d CAD package are you using for your CGI material :?:
Cheer's :D

PS: have you not got your latest masterpiece finished yet :?:  ::):

Cinema 4D v8 (no idea how much it costs   8) )

Funny you should ask....

I'm going in this afternoon to photograph everything I can (external details to finish the above, and enough to maybe make a start on the auditorium, although I'll hopefully get access to the building plans to make things a bit more accurate).

Look forward to seeing some comprehensive pics

Hope you get your hands on them too. Just mention us @ HG.com that'll grant you access if they get stroppy  :D

Fabulous work, Rosco.

BTW, if anybody wants to try this 3D modelling lark, I have some programs *for Macintosh* from magazine cover disks. Not the latest versions, but they're free and legal.

Don't suppose they run on OS X, do they?
If they do, I wouldn't mind having a play about. Been meaning to have a go at some 3D stuff for a while now... (kind of inspired by this)

3D modelling?? Try Pro-Engineer, ab-fab

Yup, ProEngineer is pretty good, but not for presentation style things. Same goes for autoCAD. SolidWorks is a good all-rounder, as far as I know.

3D studio max and cinema 4d are also pretty good for more visual work, like mine.

Finally, Britannia photos. They're generally not that great, because its a basic camera (Fuji Finepix A201) and I ain't got a tripod.

Thanks, I'll hopefully get some better ones next time I'm in. Had a busy few days so haven't added much other than some of the detail on the stonework, as shown below, and touching up some things I'd missed or fudged. I'll start on the shopfronts either tomorrow or Tuesday.

As far as the building plans are concerned, Judith does have some, but was going to try to get them from the Royal Commission, which could take months. Given that I should be able to match the proportions of the hall fairly well by eye (going to model it on-site if I can), I shouldn't need them. Anyways, I'll definitely keep updating when there's progress to show off.
