the one beside the A80 - I presume it's the one just on the edge of Moodiesburn just before you get to the Devro factory - is almost identical to the one just outside Lenzie.

They's proably on the same length of piping.

I too thought they had Civil Defence purposes until I made the water board connection. Still curious why an access point to an underground pipe needs an ariel though.

I was told it was something along the lines of data was sent via radio and these ariels did the job. Dunno how much it's true tho but that's what I was told!

If the aerial's similar to a TV aerial, but has the directors aligned vertically (TV is horizontal), then it's a data link. If it's on a water board site, most likely flowmeter info monitoring consumption to a private supply. Not likely to be anything 'official' as these links are not secure or guaranteed.

Will be going past it on the bus twice in the next 24 hours, so I can describe it in a bit more detail tomorrow.

the site I'm thinking of is here

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x ... search.srf

On Main St just after Rosehill Drive going west.

Never guessed it'd be a water board thing.

I have pictures of the one near Lenzie somewhere, but the purplegrum filing system isn't what it used to be and I can't find them at the moment.

(They're somewhere among about 2500 files in the 'unsorted' folder).

Save the effort P, that'll be the Kirkintilloch one:

http://www.subbrit.org.uk/cgi-bin/webda ... ction=form

Probably will turn out to be an underground reservoir, though they are usually clearly signed. Nearest known ROC post locations are nearly 5 miles from the location given above.

Question for clever folk: Any way to split a long link that doesn't then depend on the reader being clever enough to glue it back together to use it?

Aye, the Kirky ROC post is beside the road on the way to Kilsyth, just before Queenzieburn IIRC.

The water pipe thingy is just outside Lenzie.

I dont think it's an underground reservoir on account of the Moodiesburn one being so similar to the Kirky one and there beeing quite a few hatches/manholes in neighbouring fields. You could probably follow them in a line to trace the pipeline.

Seamy, I was thinking of one at the edge of moodiesburn, but the one you're taking about in Condorrat is almost identical.

Here are the pipe-related structures (in my first attempt at posting my own pics!)

Ok, they do look interesting.

I take it that we're looking at a door protecting a stairway heading underground.

Don't think I've ever passed anything quite like those. Looks far too interesting, so I would have to have stopped or gone back for a look.

I first passed this (go down to Tomphubil entry) http://www.scenicscotland.net/pitlochry ... orical.htm when it was buried in snow, and had to go back when it thawed. It had looked quite different, and was a bit disappointing when I found it wasn't some massively reinforced hillside entrance. Can't win 'em all :)

You can't be blunt like that! Keep the mystery going! Give us something to talk about.

Unless you're working for THEM, and you know exactly what they are, and are hitting us with that "water board" cover story.

I'm told they're the secret entrance to UNIT HQ.

Quick, Sergeant Benton, five rounds rapid!
Too few hours in the day.

Maybe I'm on the other side and don't want you to know what they REALLY are!!

(This thread has become so off topic from the ROC)
