Amazing picture when you think what it's like now! Not much different at that angle but just seeing the trams there is strange.

Good pictures, book looks interesting. Might be an interesting present for my dad but no occasions coming up for me to buy it!

On the subject of Charing Cross mansions, I noticed today for the first time the clock on the front. It's a shame it isn't going. I think St Georges Mansions look nicer though these days (except for the rubbishy shops underneath). Suddenly occurred to me there as well, was there a furniture shop there in the late 60s/70s? I think my parents bought their suite there!

I don't know about it being not that different. Look at the line of long gone tenements (and a church spire) all the way down the east side of Eglinton St and the west side of Pollokshaws Rd.

I see it's tram lines on the Eglinton St side and dotted white lines on the Pollokshaws Rd side (with overhead lines for trolley buses I assume).

It is. There's also two wires over each carrageway on the right, and the left has only having one. Trollybuses need the live & return current wires to operate. The tram current return was done through the rails.

On the subject of tram wires (sorry lassies), any old pictures seem to show single wires anchored from lamp posts or walls holding up the overheads but when I look at the big metal hooks that are still on the tenements today there appears to be two anchor points as if double wires held up the overheads? Have I just turned into Eric Olthwaite out of Ripping Yarns?

Well I suppose so, I just thought it was funny with the trams there. One of my friends lives round there so I'm used to it these days. I know there's a lot of bits missing, but the actual 'toll' bit is still recognisable.

Fraid not :( Plenty of Trolleybus pics, but not on that road.
My excuse is they were never popular with the public, staff, or enthusiasts, so compared to the trams not as many pics were taken

Anyone ever seen the BTF film "Sites that sell in Scotland" from 1964? Presumably it's about advertising on transport related sites. I found these stills from it:
Blue train entering Queen Street low level

busy Glasgow street (no location given, any takers?)

all images from the very wonderful Science and Society picture library which can be found here

I think it's Motherwell. The buildings front left and front right are gone, but I think it's the station you can see in the background.

edit
I've just looked at some pics on Scran (don't have my password at work so none posted), and it's definately Motherwell.

This is Brandon Street in Motherwell, now Brandon Parade after pedestrianisation in 1979. The Horseshoe is still there.
