Slightly geeky concern, but Death Watch was shot in scope, at an aspect ratio of 2.35:1, and suffers badly from any attempt to crop this - my pan-and-scanned Betamax copy was almost unwatchable thanks to this!

Although it is possible for 16mm films to be printed anamorphically, I'm not sure its standard practice, so there is a possibility that this print being shown at the GFT will be cropped. Don't think I've ever seen a 16mm print on a big screen before, so I'm not sure how the resolution suffers either.

But if the only 35mm print in Britain is the same one as was shown at the GFT around 1997/98, then I'm not surprised they're not using it - even then, it was fairly beaten up, with a loud buzzing noise over the soundtrack for about ten mins near the start!

Pity the print used for the French DVD isn't available, it's pretty nice.

There's 6 copies on Ebay just now.
The plot sounds like serious crappo though :?

BTW, the bus in the 10th photo is a Volvo Ailsa, not an Atlantean.

Better late than never ::):

Although it's 2 years and 7 months since I said I'd post this, it might have been a lot longer as it was in a batch of around 500 (film) pics that got 'mislaid' under circumstances that meant I didn't even know it had happened.

The original promise is back on the 2nd page of the thread.

However, there may be a positive side to the delay, as the pic was taken in the shadow of the Granary, and we might get lucky if the builder was the same as mentioned here:-

There just might be the chance of some details if I drop this hint nicely enough :)

Ha, 1 year on and I finally saw the hint. As far as I know, the car was nothing to do with Ross who ran R M Restorations (previously Beetlemania) as he had premesis on the other side of the grannery.

I would imagine he may know the details however but after being dicked about by the people who rented him the premesis (Clyde navigation trust?) and being re-located 3 times in around 6 months he gave up with trying to find a workshop in Glasgow and moved out to Bishopton so I dont pass so often now.

GFT

Renowned French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier talks to Alison Young about the making of Death Watch, his 1979 Glasgow-set film starring Romy Schneider, Harvey Keitel and Harry Dean Stanton. Never released in cinemas in the UK and difficult to track down on DVD, the film has become a lost cult classic as well as a remarkable snapshot of Glasgow in the late 1970s

Watched this last night after noticing the thread, never even heard of the film beforehand, it's got a generous imdb rating of 6.9. Interesting idea, voyeuristic filming of someone coming to terms with dying, not handled well though should've been better. From the cap attached this must've been taken where the secc is now, with the tower which is next to the tall ship and the granary in the background. By the way was there a fleamarket type thing down there or was it created for the film.

then just burn it a you usually would
