My cousin worked for alpine in the late 70s/early 80s, but TBH i cant remember ever trying it.

Bought barrs tizer a few month ago, and my first reaction was...'what the f**k have they done to it!!!' wasnt how i remembered tizer.

@Tha-Gman - i remember it being called skoosh when i was at school, the term i remembered was...'gaunnae gies a skud o yer skoosh', which translated as...'could one possibly have a quick quaff of you fizzy beverage please?' ::):

The Glasgow Story

Image

Staff at the Greenhead Brewery in Canning Street (now London Road) in Calton c 1890.

The Greenhead Brewery was built c 1800 by John Struthers of the Gallowgate Brewery in Kent Street, and was acquired from his son Robert by James Steel in 1853. Five years later Steel expanded his brewing business to Edinburgh, and in 1865 went into partnership with George Coulson to form Steel, Coulson & Co. Steel died in 1891 but the Greenhead Brewery continued to brew beer until 1946. The bottlers Joseph Dunn Ltd, which had leased part of the buildings since 1932, acquired the entire complex in 1960. The firm became Dunn & Moore after a merger with D & C Moore.

Nope sorry they worth peanuts (coupple o' Quid each) - good find tho, look in parks and waste ground for old dumps or remenants of buildings and often these come up (along with broken glass and china.

My ones come from our back garden in Stirling - also lots of rusty old bike seat frames......

My Dad is a (retired) builder and he used to come home from time to time with all sorts of small bottles. It's amazing how these delicate objects could survive for over a hundred years after having been built upon. Of course, old shards of china would be everywhere and they'd come to light when excavating foundations.

Irn-Bru bottle deposit rises to 30p

DRINKERS of Scotland's other national drink are being given a further incentive to return empty bottles.
The maker of Irn-Bru has increased their cashback offer for empty glass bottles.
Customers returning empties will be offered 30p instead of 20p in a bid to encourage more people to use the deposit scheme.

I have an identical one under my floorboards in my living room, great as a step to get up, but I don't know how it got down there as its wider than the joists!!

Ooh, those glasses look neat!

Hmm, good move. :) I assume it's to encourage recycling/reuse.

I'd have assumed that plastic bottles would be the bigger problem. (Even though Irn Bru tastes better from a glass bottle!) Perhaps we could get the government to encourage similar deposits on plastic bottles, like they have in so much of Europe, to encourage people to keep their plastics separate from everything else? Or perhaps GCC could install properly segregated bins in busy parts of the city, with compartments for "paper and plastics" and "everything else"?

Har har, I make myself chuckle. GCC having the foresight to do something beneficial for populace and environment? That'll be the day ;)
