my mum and her brother were raised at 17 shields road and am sure she told me there was an underground air raid shelter built in the playground of the shields road school? anyone got any idea where it would have been?
the school as far as im aware was closed in my time visiting my granny during the sixties and seventies though i may be wrong about this i do recall the playground in wallace grove was available for playing in but may be wrong in this
would make an interesting post this unless there are posts elsewhere? perhaps someone could point me in the right direction to previous posts about shields road school?

There were one or two in Mosspark Primary school. I used to jump on a certain bit of the playground and it sounded hollow. My mum was in it as a youngster during the war. She said her knees used to knock together she was so scared.

There's an old Anderson Shelter in a garden of a house, in a scheme in North Motherwell.
Passed it today, and it's in good condition.
The owner uses it as a garden store.
He advocated for the weak against the strong, the poor against the rich and labour against capital.

Are Anderson shelters worth money?

I do a FB page for my area, and when looking for facts, I came across a Glasgow Zoo, but not the one that closed a few years back - no, this one was privately owned. Maybe you could find out more on this?

No, this was owned by a man with wealth. I shall have to look it up. If I remember correctly, it wasn't open that long, and has since been covered with houses.

Could it have been Mugdock Zoo? It's not covered by houses but did belong to a wealthy man. Now popular with dowsers @£130 a pop.
I hear the people sing.

Prompted by Radio 4's "I've never seen Star Wars", I 'd like to suggest an HG thread on things we've never done/places we haven't visited.
For example, I'm a regular at the City's museums but I've never been to the Huntarian. Any takers?

Eddy
