I think your getting mixed up with the building that was recently demolished on Dumbarton Road in Whiteinch.

This was the Whiteinch Resource Centre, and previously was the Old St Pauls Primary School.

Whiteinch Baths (large brick faced building) are still standing and can be found in Medwyn Street which runs parallel to dumbarton Road and the Expressway - close to where the demolition took place.

Chris,

The building has been closed to general public since mid 1990's when the shiney new Scotstoun Lesuire Centre opened.

Looks to be in good condition on from the outside - if i remember correctly there are large steel plates covering what used to be the entrance.

Unsure about access now - but having worked in the Scotstoun area, i'm certain some of the local neds will have found a way inside!

If I get a chance today or tomorrow morning I will have a nosey about.

Some photo's of the old Whiteinch Baths.

Apologies for the blurring - it looks like my camera (4 year old Olympus) is suffering from condensation!

My school used to use the Whiteinch pool before it closed and if I remember correctly the pool is to the right of the entrance, there was also the health suite (sauna/steam room etc) just off the pool.

There was also a Steamie (laundry) and I think this had it's own entrance - possibly behind the security door on the left of pic 2.

Picture 3 shows the boiler room, I know that a local business man tried to reopen the baths as a private venture (similar to the Western Baths Club / Arlington Baths) - but the cost of repairing the boiler to meet modern safety standards was prohibitive, and replaicing the boiler with a modern gas or electric system wasn't much cheaper, and the whole thing fell through.

There is some waste ground next to the Boiler House, but I didnt have time to investigate the rear of the building, although there is a block of tenements backing onto the baths, and there is probably an lane to allow the cleansing dept.

From what I could see it was pretty well secure, having said that if I might take the mutt for a walk and see if there is "legal" access from the back lane.

I've never been doggin up any back passage's

The only dogging I've done was bunking off from double french on a friday afternoon :wink:

But I checked this morning - minus the mutt - and I'm afraid to report that it all looks pretty much secure at the rear of the building.

Sharon - my boyfriend and I were let into the grounds of the Granary about a month before the demolishers moved in. We didn't get inside but were allowed to walk around the front. Neil took some really good photos - do you want them?
