On a more serious note what about a project covering all the Mossman sculptures in the city?

There are 37 listed on http://www.glasgowsculpture.com so it shouldn't be too bad :)

""We could declare war on jumped up boroughs like Rutherglen and laa de daa snobby bits like Bearsden. All these places that slag Glasgow and don't want to be part of the city (except when using our amenities for free at the weekend of course).""

Cheek!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a Burnsider (And old Ruglonian) I am a Glasgow post code and was part of glasgow Cooncil for a long time. Thankfully South Lanarkshire have paid money to get our Town Hall back into the building it should be after mouldering for years under Glasgow Council.
Anyways I don't slag off Glasgow City because i love it........I only slag the cooncil, which most of you do as well.
Is there a thread for 70's/80's pubs and clubs memories?? I'm up for that! Just let me get my shoulder pads and big hair sorted....
Cheers all

Come on, this is Hidden Glasgow, when was the last time anyone had a good juicey root around, and posted photos from an abandoned, or hidden place.

We're losing our way with at the disgraceful O/T posts, of which I distance myself completely (cough ) :) Reclaim HG.

Totally agree Ken.

I have been unfortunately distracted by other things and have lots of photos to post up but just can't get the time.

The weather hasn't been too great for an outing but hopefully there may be a couple of things I could work on that may interest some people.

Postby scoused will » Fri Aug 03, 2007 4:07 pm

Orange. shouldn't that be "Strathyclyde Red"

Oh and if it's a smaller one you can drive it on a pre 93 car licence

Okay, so we're doing Gillespie Kidd and Coia but..

Why not Sir Basil Spence? He's Scottish, modernist (very!) and built a fair bit around Glasgow and the rest of Scotland.
There's bit's of Glasgow Airport, the Hutchiesonton C flats in the Gorbals, Kilsyth Academy...and there's an exhibition of his work about to commence at the Dean in Embra (in Tom Sheilds' memorable phrase...44 miles from culture)

Website here
http://www.basilspence.org.uk/

Clerihew Corner, Private Eye circa 1976
Sir Basil Spence
Showed a lot of sense
When he chose to live in Norfolk
As far away as he could get from the houses he built for the rest of us poor folk.

Dunno why I've always remembered that Clerihew, but that's over 30 years now and it's still lodged in me napper. Maybe cos I always liked those Gorbals flats - in particular Queen Elizabeth House (I think that's what it was called) which was the low rise building that got blown up in 93.
