I can probably make it this weekend too. Probably have to be an afternoon, though.

Took some pics today...

Off work this week (and next) so took some pics of Pinkston Basin.

Looking north at the wharf level with Payne Street - the contruction workers are already moving in...
Image

Looking south west at the corner where the Monkland Canal is piped in...
Image

Old Railway swing bridge in swung-out position. The two tall trees in the background mark the spot where the canal 'disappears' underground. Taken from a little wooden lift footbridge at Mid-wharf Street.
Image

Taken from the same lift bridge, looking east.
Image

The far (east) end of the basin, looking south. Taken from North Canalbank Street.
Image

Same position, looking west at the concrete island-access bridge. The bridge has a couple of nasty-looking gates, which were open today, but will no doubt be closed at weekends...
Image

Abandoned buildings on the island...

Nice pics James, i remember the bridge in the swung out position well.
Still want to get up there myself before it becomes 'little Venice'.

Might be around on Sunday say 12 noon perhaps. I'll confirm later today.
Anyone else?

Sunday is good for me. 12 might be a shade early, though I could probably make it at a push, but 1pm would be better if it's OK with everyone else. What's the best spot to meet? I'll need idiot-proof instructions as I've not been there before. I only know the canal as far as Spiers Wharf. I don't drive, so I take it a bus up to the cathedral area and a walk from there is best for me?

1pm sounds good. We could meet at Cowcaddens Subway station, then go up Garscube Road, take the path that goes to the south end of Spiers Wharf, then along North Canal Bank Street. We could come back via the pedestrian bridge over the motorway from Sighthill Park to Kyle Street/ Baird Street. Then go for a coffee. Sound like a plan? Who's all coming, then?
thecatsmother, I'll pm you my mobile number in case we all get lost tomorrow!

Number duly noted, Ronnie, ta. See you at Cowcaddens underground at 1ish. Rain gear advisable, I suspect. I'll pm you my mobile in case you need to cancel, or anything.

I might come along and walk the dogs (although Cindy has just fallen down the stairs, so it may just be Bruno and I).

Nice to meet some of you.

I say might, because it all depends on if I wake up on time!

Um, sorry if this is going to be a problem, but I really won't be able to come if anyone brings dogs. I am absolutely terrified of dogs, which I know is irrational, but it's something I've taken every step I can to overcome and have been unsuccessful. I'm also extremely allergic to them, which probably doesn't help with the fear. I can just about cope with random dogs appearing if I'm with someone who knows enough about me to run interference, but actually being accompanied by a dog is pretty much out of the question.

There's always one, isn't there, If you don't want me to come then just tell me normally ;-)

Ok, I won't bring them then.

Your name is a bit of a giveaway, I must admit.
