I know the masonry stump your talking about. looks like a wishing well. Never have found out what that was but I can't think of it ever having a staue in it even when I was quite young. Whether what ever is sticking out of it belongs there no-one seems to know either. Perhaps that is the remains of the second statue, I don't think so, but equally I don't know.

Work has begun to link two of Glasgow’s most historical canalside locations.
Speirs Wharf and Pinkston Basin on the Forth & Clyde Canal have not been connected for 40 years. However, they are expected to be re-connected by late 2005 in a £5.6million project, creating a thriving canal quarter.
The development is the first stage in a long-term regeneration project hoping to create a positive change in North Glasgow and, with the restoration of the canal basin, a flourishing and attractive waterspace.
Managed by British Waterways, the scheme aims to create maximum benefits for the city, which could lead to new jobs in the area by releasing up to 30 hectares of unused land in Port Dundas. The land could be used for mixed-use development and environmental improvements.
It is also expected that the project will stimulate investment in tourism and recreation amenities.
Funding has been received from Glasgow City Council, European Regional Development Fund, ISIS and the Garfield Weston Foundation.
British Waterways’ chairman, George Greener, commented: “This canalside development provides a tremendous opportunity for economic growth through the reconnection of these two historic canalside locations, and represents a productive next step in the regeneration of Scotland’s Lowland canal corridor.”
Councillor Charlie Gordon, leader of Glasgow City Council explained: “The re-connection of Speirs Wharf to Pinkston Basin builds on the regeneration process started by the creation of The Millennium Link. It brings the Forth & Clyde Canal very close to Glasgow’s vibrant City Centre and mirrors the regeneration of Glasgow’s River Clyde Waterfront with a new and exciting Canal Waterfront.”
