Thanks for that, I had no idea Shawlands used to be so different (although I'd never really given it much thought), what was the Embassy? A cinema?

Are there any open textile mills left in Scotland. Ive been inside the last one in Aberdeen quite a lot recently, just wondered where else they existed?

I forgot to go to bed last night so I was up early and had nothing to do so I thought I'd give this a try.

Right, thanks to dimairt and his suggestion I have a look at the Jimmy Boyle film 'A Sense of Freedom' for stuff filmed around my area, I present a special themed Past Present...

First up, top of Napiershall Street, c.1974 and now ('then' pic courtesy of David Warrilow):

Now, some 'then' shots screencapped from the 1979 film 'A Sense of Freedom':

Nice Set Nodrog,
There are other sets of movie themed Past/Presents on here somewhere too from the films Comfort and Joy and Deathwatch, Maybe we should do this with others too. 8)

Brilliant!

Funnily enough I was going to grab a few scenes from the dvd and post them as I didn't know where exactly the film was shot.

The copy I have has some dodgy overdubbing on it :x is everybody's the same?

Unfortunately, Anchor Bay released the export version on DVD, with toned down accents. Don't think any other version has been released as of yet. Haven't seen this version myself, wonder if it's as bad as the dubbed Gregory's Girl I saw a few years ago??

The story behind this past present began about 10 years ago when I was out and about looking for somewhere to take pictures of my first car. Just outside Eaglesham I found this small lay-by. I returned there yeaterday in my van and got the present pic. I think there is a big enough change for a past present;

That's terrific Nodrog. I've ordered a copy of "A Sense of Freedom" from the library.

The only bits I remember from the "A Sense of Freedom" film, is him slashing some guy with a razor (and kicking his milk bottles over), and smearing shite over the cell wall ::):
