Just a pity it isn't actually used as a workplace anymore.

If all work buildings are being turned into flats, where do people actually work now?

With the advances in modern telecomunications it's a very long time since a significant number of people worked in that building.

It used to be where all of the West-end's telphone calls were routed through manually. Once we got direct dialling the switchboard girls moved out and it was only really engineers that worked there and latterly only visiting when there was a fault. Then digital exchanges arrived and the calls are dealt with up the road in Victoria Circus.

What confuses me even more though is that in the 'present' photo the lettering is white, but in the past photo the lettering is dark. I also have a small resolution picture of the same advert which has vertical stripes all along the background. It's also worth pointing out that by the mid 60's the advert had been completely painted over white, so how it still exists at all is a miracle.
Crikey! I think these adverts are becoming a bit of an obsession pour moi.

<edit>
Ha! I think i've finally worked this one out:

I think it's for Hubbards Bakers (or maybe not. Certainly in the right location though).
