Shocking :-(

A bit happier story (will I get blackballed for posting a photo of Bearsden ?) this nice wee building on Milngavie Road was a tramway electrical sub station, which was turned into a public hall. It's still in very good nick.

1950's.

That's the place, just on the corner of Kessington Road, & Milngavie Road.

It's about 2 seconds down the road from my house. Nah, theres no indication at all about its former use inside, its your fairly generic local function hall. I'd imagine it would have been completely gutted inside and rebuilt.
Malcolm Tucker is always right.

Somewhere within the searches... there's that photo of the truck that lost a wheel at the junction and there's Mrs McGlumpher looking at it; big Polis walking along etc.
Can't remember if the hall is seen in those pics and any sign of it's 'past' showing?

3 more pics. I've got a soft spot for this wee building :-)

As with many stone faced buildings, the "hidden" side is brick.

I am glad it didnt het flattened but I was really sad to see it close as a cinema.
If I had the money and the know how I would have loved to have taken it on as I always thought it would have made money if they had introduced theme nights and shown old movies instead of trying to compete directly with the modern cinemas.
Look a the success in other places of Sound of Music nights and rocky horror nights.
Every weekend in the BT Multiplex would have shown old movies with a theme like a Smokey and the bandit weekend with american car fans parked up on the big pavement, cowboy movie weekend with simulated shoot outs and a saloon in the foyer, James bond weekends and everybody could dress up and cheer for their favorites.
I recon it would have been cool but I guess it wont happen in the Toledo now.
