Thanks, guys. I intend to get some shots of the upstairs cells in the next two days (there is a different access point and I need different authorisation). So stay tuned!

I should've mentioned... this shot shows the entrance to the prison. It's quite bizarre -- you walk through modern office space and through a yale-locked door (you can see the light pine doorframe) into another epoch.

Fantastic stuff Tim, fascinating location. I can't believe that the dirty protest is still there, i can only imagine someone saying to a cleaner, "no leave that, future generations can learn from it"

The Partick Police Office in Anderston Street was built around 1858, the year that the Partick Burgh Police was established. It was the Hq of the force until Partick was swallowed up by Glasgow in November 1912. The force then became a 'L' (Partick) Division of the City of Glasgow Police.
This continued until 1932 when Chief Constable Sillitoe merged a number of city divisions to steamline the force.
'L' (Partick) and 'B' (Western) were amalgamated to form 'B' (Marine) Division. It carried the title 'Marine' as the CC was obliged under the Glasgow Police Act 1866 to have a Marine Division. He therefor got around this by giving the title to the new 'B' Division, although they, like the other riverside divisions, were only responsible for the quays and warehouses that fell within their division.
It was due to this merger that the Partick Police Office became known as 'Partick Marine' to police and locals alike.
The office was operational (and the scene for exterior shots of the back fire escape and cells for the Taggart TV drama) until 9 July 1993, when the office closed and the new office on Dumbarton Road was opened.

Actually, I have photos of the cleaners' room which, ironically enough, is the messiest room in the whole jail. I'll post them once Geocities reinstates my data transfer allocation.

Wow! I had no idea it looks like that still... I thought it had been changed into flats!

I had to point out a dirty old man in an identity parade in that police station. I also remember being questioned in one of the rooms. Although I was only 6, I have very vivid memories of that place - it would be good to see it again. How do you arrange that?

taggart used the old orkney st police station in govan to film occasionaly ,i had the pleasure of being an on duty security guard at the building when they were there the partick cells are scarily similar to the ones at govan except done in blue and the back end of the cells are identical to the district court in turnbull st which was a police station at one time i imagine a standard design was used at the time of building these stations.
