Several of you chaps are obviously contemporaries :D . Despite strong temptation to go on all day, I shall limit myself to

It's Grahame. There would have been 13 letters in his name otherwise, and his mammy was superstitious.

It's run by Paul McGeechan of Friends Again and Love and Money fame.

Amongst others, Jazzateers also recorded their eponymous album there.

Nice to see my singles box is still worth money, though.

NB. Malcolm Middleton from Arab Strap now makes solo records. I'm not sure if he is signed to Chemikal Underground but nevertheless he is still gloriously miserable. When he sings "my loneliness shines" it sounds to me like "my load of shite".

I found the address on inserts from old Delgados records. I guess they must have moved.

Malcolm Middleton is indeed still signed to Chemikal. "A Brighter Beat" is probably my album of 2007 so far.

I had no idea where that studio is. Mogwai must have sold more records that I imagined to be able to afford property there!

IIRC she's from Cumbernauld. The only other Cumbernauld band being Barky Barky although Johnny Brady (of Johnny7 fame) whose big brother was in Barky Barky now plays bass for the Rezillos when he isn't wotking at Merchant City Music.

Brian McAppleyard writes...
We shared a producer with Jerry for a while. They were going out too I think...Bobby Hendry?

Q: What's the Glasgow connection with James Blunt, Scissor Sisters, Bryan Adams, Pet Shop Boys, Steve Earle, Kiss, The Georgia Satellites, The Joe Strummer Band and The Stone Roses among others?

A : Shawlands Jimmy Moon who has sold or repaired instruments for that lot plus many more. And his proud boast is that they all pay just like us lesser mortals! A wee workshop down a lane off Pollokshaws Road near Shawlands Cross is where it all happens. When you see bands on the telly, look for the wee crescent moon on the headstock of the guitar, you'll know it was made in Shawlands!

My mandolin's a Moon and I love it.

Wow! Another mandocrucian on HG. Who'da thunk it?

Mine is an early 1920's Gibson A-.

Crappy photo.

Jimmy Moon did some great work on my previous mandolin, a Gibson Alrite from about 1916.

Nice one! How does it play and sound? My only other one was a cheapo £80 Epiphone before buying my pride and joy!

In truth........not that great on either count, but I'm not a great player.

The bass end sounds big and full but the treble end is a bit tinny and 'plinky-plonky'. It probably needs restrung.

No-one's mentioned the River Detectives yet. They had a minor hit with Chains in 1989. They were a kinda folk duo, from Motherwell or somesuch. I think our drummer had a passing aquaintance with Sam.

Bis? Twee. I bought "Sweet Shop Avengers" but nothing else. I think They're still going,or maybe they just reconvened cos they played in Glasgow this year. Originally on Chemikal Underground, BTW. Johnny Brady from the Johnny7 and the Rezillos was their guitar roady.

Strange too that there's nothing here about the Blue Nile, yet. An enigmatic band, to say the least. Songs like "The Downtown Lights" and "Headlights on the Parade" express a sorrow or melancholy which is abscent from nearly all other Glasgow originated music. Twenty years on we're still just 4 albums in, the last, High, came out in 2004. Paul Buchanan famously dated (married?) Rossana Arquette. He toured a set of Blue Nile Songs last year under the title "Paul Buchanan sings the songs of The Blue Nile". There's meant to be a new album due.

Anyone here remember anything about Set The Tone? They were a funk band, a bit like Rip Rig and Panik. I think the keyboard player was Kenny Myzak, who had played with the Minds but I've been wrong before. Bobby Patterson from Love and Money was the bassist. He ended up managing the Tunnell for Ronny McCulloch and a coupla years back he was in Bob Hodgkins new band the Poems. Unfortunately, Bobby Patterson died last year.
