To find out how good they were visit Glasband80 website, or my postings on Youtube... at Thom405L. NO you were quite right to answer Mr Toddy back Thom405L, after all he was having a wee go at Glasband 80,..... Free speech and all that BUT, You won't get Glasband 80 or anyone associated with it bringing out a "Scottish Hall of fame" Section/ Forum and filling it with rubbish like Strawbwerry Switchblade, Christian, Belle and Sebastian and so on, so you were quite right to have a go back Thom405L at least you know what you are talking about mate.

If anyone wants to see, hear and read about proper Scottish talent from the 70s and 80s check out Glasband 80

What about the band Scheme for The Glasgow Rock Hall of fame. The only unsigned Band to headline and pack out The Glasgow Apollo in 1984, there was this myth that Scheme were only ever followed by Neds and Junkies which was absolutely not true, they were admired and followed by fellow musicians and decent music fans from all over Scotland and packed out pretty much every Venue they played, they also played The Glasgow Pavillion a few times and appeared on TV in a 6 part Show called "Talk Back" and on Channel 4 Documentary called "Innocent as Hell.

Just joined and ive only had a quick look through but i felt i had to respond to this
James King and The Lonewolves - I Don't Care if You Live or Die. The hardest band in Glasgow? Yes.

er no actually hahahahaha it was all myth, ex St Mungos boys just creating a bit of a persona but it doesn't make you a bad person!!!!! in the hall of fame Berkely Studios should have a place in there. Almost every band of note has passed through it and why even last Sunday current pop picker Paulo Nuttini was rehearsing down there. We had the misfortune to be two studios down from his old man in a young mans body schtick  Im still new here so leave it with me i'll get back to it................Zhivagos been mentioned yet? the jam played there 1977 as the Glasgow City Council relaxed its ban on the dreaded scourge of our nations yoof punk rock, thank god, the trip through to Paisley was like Apocalypse Now even if you were not dressed in punk gear.................................Btw i'm a young man in an old mans body so maybe i'm just jealous of the Nutty boy? nah i dont think i am really

Evidence, please. Yeah, they packed out several Glasgow venues, but that was because their entire fanbase turned up at every gig.

So what makes a legend then Tomsk? Good PR, Good gigs and maybe good records or to be managed by the chief engineer at Clyde 2.
I'd rather go and see Christian today than resit though dreich gigs from the likes of Underhand Jones, The Dolphins and the other widbes. You like them I don't simple as that. At the time I'd rather go and see the Khyber Trifles, Croppa, Chico than the two previously mentioned. I've just had a look at the Glasband80 site to remind myself of
who their contemporaries were and I'd rather see Chasar (even in spandex trousers) Chou Pahrot, Glasgow, The Henry Gorman Band, Even H20 (but without the sax) and fuck me even Big George and The Business than endure some of the hours taken from my life suffering UHJ and the fucking Dolphins. These guys were getting gigs in Glasgow whilst one had to travel to Paisley to catch Orange Juice, The Jolt and The Fun 4. If you don't get Altered Images or Belle and Sebastian it's your loss. According to Steven Gray's myspace the Jam were supported by johnny and the Self Abusers at Zhivago's Milk bar. Was that Terminal One at St. Enoch's square for a while?

Not quite sure if it can be called music, but Glasgow's TTF were 'born' on the top floor flat in 38 Garturk St. in Govanhill in 1987 where they sounded a lot like A-Ha and went under the name of Thru The Fire and went on to become Glasgow's Band of Culture or something silly like that. They discovered drugs and how to make money from people who like to get out of their faces on a weekend and so Glasgow's premier ned techno legends were born.

Well Well Well !, we have touched a raw nerve there haven't we old Dexy,... Who said anything about the bands I mentioned being "Legends" if you look back at the posts I put out, i didn't ever say that, I stated the simple fact that Underhand Jones and The Dolphins were massively more talented, i.e UHJ... Stevie Doherty, brilliant singer, songwriter and guitarist and still playing and selling material to this day, Cammy Forbes, prolific songwriter, singer, guitarist, piano and keyboard player with The Dolphins and as a solo artist, who ( AND THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT...THEY WERE UNSIGNED) still managed to pack out Kelvingrove in a one off gig in 1983 and played The Mayfair regularly because pubs and bars were too small for the crowds they were pulling, sounds like you might not remember because you were at the Pavilion watching Christian in a Panto, If you are slagging off Jonnie Mac he is highly spoken of and was one of the most influential people ever to come out of the unsigned band era of the late 70s and 80s, John has been highly spoken of on his interview with Tom Russell on Glasband 80 recently if you read it. These guys were infinitely more talented than Belle and Sebastian, definitely more talented than Altered images. And Christian? (who's the wally now ? can you hear yourself? "You Like him, I don't simple as that" BUT you started the Slagging off...Remember?

You do have some good sense at times, Chasar were brilliant, H2O were Brilliant, The Khybers were brill and Henry isl a legend and is still brilliant!

Please do me a favor and include decent Bands and Artists on "Glasgow hall of Fame" part of this thread, the way things are going a Karaoke dick will be next included!! or Britain's got talent with someone knitting a jumper!

To finish just remember this Dexy, you were the one Slagging off, UHJ and The Dolphins! NOT ME, I just replied with the same cheek only, I know what I'm talking about.

Ban me from the Forum if you want, I don't give a toss! but I do have this all copied and ready to be posted again for a laugh on other sites that are not secret.

. If you want to dish it , be prepared to take it . otherwise shut the fuck up!

p.s I haven't even started yet Dexy.....

Aye Toomsk if Underhand Jones or The Dolphins re unite I am sure they would write one of their turgid songs about you and your heroic exploits. As I emphasise again you like them I don't. I can't recall UHJ being regulars at the Mayfair but i do suppose John McCalman, Heid Bummer at Clyde 2 would have had some influence with Ross Bowie and in exchange for a band guaranteed to bring in a heavy drinking crowd early doors the Alexander Brothers would still be guaranteed plays on Jack McLaughlin's show. I am sure the members of UHJ and the Dolphins are wonderful musicians, good guys all round and obviously very important in the lives of the musically retarded but I repeat i heard them and was unimpressed.

If you want to nominate them for the Rock'n'Roll hall of fame on you go but there should be a separate thread for groups of talented musicians who realised too late that their combined talents were pulling a crowd of numpties who had missed out on Maggie Bell and the Power and were too early for Scheme. Underhand Jones of course wakened up and Campbell Forbes along with Brian Coyle dumped the rest of them to form The Dolphins without quite understanding that their material was drawing the drecks. The Dolphins were immediately out of their depth outside of pub gigs, they did headline at the QMU but pissed off the regular crowd whilst their followers were too pissed on the cheap drink to liven the gig up. Then again liveliness was never a feature of Dolphins gigs. Cod reggae seems to be the downfall of most bands from The Police, UB40, Scheme and current faves San Toy and of cours the Dolphins.

this quote from Glasband80 says it all

they had a brilliant Instrumental called “Song for the Japanese Dolphin” with its subtle piano beginning, explosive mid section bringing in powerful guitar and drums then moving back to quiet piano and keyboards punctuated with haunting guitar licks at the end.

Unfortunately the band were more up themselves than the brown nosed author of the above.

Judge for yourselves by heading for http://www.myspace.com/thedolphinsglas

Oh and you missed out their headline appearance with Tiger Tim on the Untied Shoelaces show.

BTW your spelling touched my nerve glad to see it's improved.

On the Saturday Talking Heads supported The Ramones at Strathclyde University and on Sunday Blondie supported Television at The Apollo.

You can forget Toyah.

HA!! wee Stevie i was in a band with him called Happy The Man good to see him again hee hee the happy sound of young Glasgow was the tagline if i remember correctly i got booted out for "ahem" not adhering to the band leaders Jamie 's stricy one pint and no stimulants in front of our fans rule.Good god we were in a band i wonder if Keef has ever had the same hassle from Mick? Dexter it was the same pub in St.Enochs it became a favoured haunt for the punks after the cooncil decided Glasgow was ready for it  Television and Blondie at the Apollo what a double bill that was also the first time the Stranglers played the Apollo there were loads of cooncil chappies in attendance just to make sure we were not getting corrupted, too late the West Of Scotland headfuck had already done that to most of us...........................................ah the good old days btw i once played on the same bill as Scheme in Cranhill park at an anti drugs gig.the irony was not lost on any of the bands playing and the Dalriada pub adjacent to the park made the Stones backstage look like Mothercare..........................
