I don't want to cast aspersions on the band but I think John managed to plant a story in the local rags about the tapes for their first album/single being stolen from the back of a car. Possessing a copy of Jammy but Nice it's a pity the tapes were found.
Maybe we should carry on talking about so called "legends" like
"Christan" [*]then eh Dex?, Jammy but Nice might not have been the best unsigned band's album ever but they had more talent than most of the crap that is being mentioned on this thread, i.e.
Christain[*], Belle and Sebastian, Altered Images and the like.
So what makes a legend then Tomsk? Good PR, Good gigs and maybe good records or to be managed by the chief engineer at Clyde 2.
I'd rather go and see Christian today than resit though dreich gigs from the likes of Underhand Jones, The Dolphins and the other widbes. You like them I don't simple as that. At the time I'd rather go and see the Khyber Trifles, Croppa, Chico than the two previously mentioned. I've just had a look at the Glasband80 site to remind myself of
who their contemporaries were and I'd rather see Chasar (even in spandex trousers) Chou Pahrot, Glasgow, The Henry Gorman Band, Even H20 (but without the sax) and fuck me even Big George and The Business than endure some of the hours taken from my life suffering UHJ and the fucking Dolphins. These guys were getting gigs in Glasgow whilst one had to travel to Paisley to catch Orange Juice, The Jolt and The Fun 4. If you don't get Altered Images or Belle and Sebastian it's your loss. I could not give a toss.

Well Well Well !, we have touched a raw nerve there haven't we old Dexy,... Who said anything about the bands I mentioned being "Legends" if you look back at the posts I put out, i didn't ever say that, I stated the simple fact that Underhand Jones and The Dolphins were massively more talented, i.e UHJ... Stevie Doherty, brilliant singer, songwriter and guitarist and still playing and selling material to this day, Cammy Forbes, prolific songwriter, singer, guitarist, piano and keyboard player with The Dolphins and as a solo artist, who ( AND THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT...THEY WERE UNSIGNED) still managed to pack out Kelvingrove in a one off gig in 1983 and played The Mayfair regularly because pubs and bars were too small for the crowds they were pulling, sounds like you might not remember because you were at the Pavilion watching Christian in a Panto, If you are slagging off Jonnie Mac he is highly spoken of and was one of the most influential people ever to come out of the unsigned band era of the late 70s and 80s, John has been highly spoken of on his interview with Tom Russell on Glasband 80 recently if you read it. These guys were infinitely more talented than Belle and Sebastian, definitely more talented than Altered images. And Christian? (who's the wally now ? can you hear yourself? "You Like him, I don't simple as that" BUT you started the Slagging off...Remember?
You do have some good sense at times, Chasar were brilliant, H2O were Brilliant, The Khybers were brill and Henry isl a legend and is still brilliant!
Please do me a favor and include decent Bands and Artists on "Glasgow hall of Fame" part of this thread, the way things are going a Karaoke dick will be next included!! or Britain's got talent with someone knitting a jumper!
To finish just remember this Dexy, you were the one Slagging off, UHJ and The Dolphins! NOT ME, I just replied with the same cheek only, I know what I'm talking about.
Ban me from the Forum if you want, I don't give a toss! but I do have this all copied and ready to be posted again for a laugh on other sites that are not secret.
. If you want to dish it , be prepared to take it . otherwise shut the fuck up!
p.s I haven't even started yet Dexy.....
