Gaylords anyone?

Here's a new post from the Glasgow Mods Website on the great Scottish Beat Groups of the 60's (including The Gaylords themselves - listen to 'He's A Good Face' fantastic song!)

Not a Glasgow band, but containing at least 2 Glaswegians - wasn't AC/DC's "If you want blood" recorded at the Apollo?

Bon Scott can be heard asking if there's any virgins in Glasgow, during "The Jack".

Can also confirm (post a few pages back) that Nirvana did play the QMU, though think it was as a support to Mudhoney, sometime in 1990-91.

Yes, although I think there was quite a bit of tinkering with the recording. There's a great piece of video on youtube of bon scott and angus at the apollo in scotland '78 tops ("fling thing">"rocker" iirc)

Indeed they did, think it was 1990 if memory serves. They were the headline act and the show sold out. I'm pretty sure muhoney were not on the bill.

Was living in ediboro at the time (and well into my subpop) so didn't make the show but quite a few friends did.

According to various Nirvana gigographies, it was Sat. 30th November 1991 at the QMU, with Shonen Knife and Captain America in support. See here and here (scroll down, there's even scans of tickets on this one!). No sign of a Glasgow gig in 1990, though they did play Edinburgh both years. In fact it appears that the QMU show was the one and only time they played Glasgow.

Aye, '91 it must have been.

they played Glasgow when I was in Edinburgh, Edinburgh when I was in Glasgow...

There was a show sheduled for the SECC in Glasgow in '94, but it was cancelled for some reason or another.

Ticket office in Virgin gave full refunds but allowed folks to keep the ticket stubs as a souvenir.

Right, balconies, so we're probably talking Tiffanys or Night Moves. Night Moves?

Looks like Night Moves but it has changed a lot since I played there way back in 1984.

I have some snaps - featuring what I presume is those balconies - of the Fire Engines playing there. I must get a scanner one of these days.

Thanks, SL. I hadn't realised it was being turned into a hotel.

And thanks for the photos.
