Did they ever? It's usually "Bee-nyah HUB!" or something similarly unrelated to the name of the paper.

::): I will always remember with affection the wee fat guy who sold the papers on Gordon Street at the Central Station....
He could and did let it go regular.....in as loud a voice as he could get away with............
TIMES AND CITIZENENENENEN
TIMES AND CITIZENENENENEN
Written to emphasise the way CITIZEN was extended almost for a full 30 seconds.
Real characters like him are sadly probably no longer 'politically correct' but still made an atmosphere.

Hhmm what do you understand by the phrase politically correct? Just in case you get seriously offended when the real muck starts flying round here

There is a vendor opposite the ticket office above the low level at Central. He must have been the model for the one on the Karen Dunbar show, he sits there reading his paper and at irregular intervals mumbles, 'Evenin' TIMES' his voice rising at the end.
In my day it was 'Late Fannyhill'

 I don't get offended at all....quite the opposite, however, so many do-gooders try to change what is good and bad for us that even a simple paper seller would probably fall foul of some official quoting a new law which forbids him 'selling loudly' in the streets.
The point being, we have lost so much of what made Glasgow 'special' to people.....what we don't want to do is to end up as bland as our neighbours from Edinburgh.....!

Good grief - not allowed to shout in the streets to advertise a paper ? One of my fondest memories is getting dragged around town when a youngster and wondering why these people were shouting
" Flooooooobadobba Wonka"

At least - that is what it sounded like to me :D

My fiancee is from South Africa and when he moved over here when he was about 10, his aunt used to take him into Glasgow shopping (they stayed in Balloch, Loch Lomond) and he was convinced for years that the ET men in the city centre shouted "WE MAKE TOYS!" hehehe! ::):

There's a guy wanders into Buchanan Bus Station of an evening and there's no way I can equate what he says with "Evening Times". My hearing isn't perfect, 'tis true, but I'm reassured to know it's not just me.
