Love these Art Noveau faces looking out from the upper levels of a south side corner tenement.
It is widely but wrongly assumed that Glasgow’s Art Nouveau was all down to Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his associates.
Everyday architecture of the time was also influenced, as shown with the lovely ladies of this tenement, who are similar to the long haired lady over the entrance of the School of Art.
The ironwork fencing of Holmlea School and the tiles on the early 20th century closes in Cathcart show lots of very modernistic Art Noveau influences.
I’m sure there must be lots of bits and pieces throughout the city created in this very short time, which should be recorded and hopefully appreciated.
