At Tannochside there used to be a second water tower near the remaining one. It was part of the Caterpiller factory and was a big ball like thing on four supports all in steel. When they ripped down the factory to build houses, the took it down too.
The remaining tower was just enough to support the existing houses. I dont know how they are coping with all the new ones in the area now.

I have images of that thing at Motherwell Bridge. Does it look similar?? :-)

By the way, there is what looks like a water tower, painted in blue and on several little spindly legs that lies at the back of Gart Navel Royal (??).

It is just behind the houses on Whittinghame Drive at the Glasgow end and is surrounded by trees and the hospital building.

I have always wanted to know more about that thing as I see it every time we visit friends who live in one of the big houses (opposite where a certain famous Glasgow Comedien lived until he died a year or two ago by the way).

As far as I am aware, there are no water towers here in Dumbarton, but then, the water just runs down the hill from the reserviors.

Also, thanks for highlighting the one that you see to your left from the main dual carrageway at Clydebank as you go towards Glasgow.
As a kid, always wondered what it was and thought it looked vaguely like a big spaceship.........

Snapped these two as that eerie big cloud bank shuffled westwards over the city the other night - not too clued up on my water towers, though, can anyone confirm my suspicions that they're Cranhill and Garthalmock? Picture was taken from the top of a bing on the eastern fringes of Cambuslang, looking north.

More bigs of the scary big cloud over on the sunset thread in the photography forum.

Yep, you're not lost yet.

Cranhill left, Garthamlock pair to right.

Now, can we have the same shot with their illuminations on please, to go in the night photography threads

Don't fall off the bing though 8O

Found another one popping up in the background of my cloud pics from the other night - this is looking towards Viewpark, so I presume it's the Tannochside one. But what's the wee structure beside it, like a skinny tower??

Its a mast for mobile phones. It has a few microwave dishes that point out to the cells for mobiles. If you go to Bellshill train station and stand on the bridge and look in the direction that the microwave dish points on the mast beside it, you'll see the same tower. Wouldnt stand there long, unless you want to try and cook the pie you put in your coat pocket for later.
