When I grew up in Ravenswood in the 70s, all the properties shared a communal tv aerial - black and white at first and then about 1974 we were given colour reception as long as you plugged in a convertor to the back of the telly. Was the rest of Cumbernauld included in the network and does anyone know where the communal aerial was located?

Was in the town centre for the first time in about thirty years. Wish to hell my satnav had hidden it from me. 8O

heard a rumour that the end of the town centre thats got the post office is all going to be shut for 3 months so they can do tests to see if the building can support a planned cinema to be built on top of it.

There's a fair amount of space in Forth Walk. Take away the false ceiling and it's pretty much two storeys. Count the lower level of Mackays and that's three.

The question is, if they put a cinema in, how many screens? I can't see it being successful with less than 3, given the competition which already exists from Coatbridge and Glasgow.

Absolutely nothing to do with the last few posts about the cinema - but this is worth a wee watch....

Cumbernauld in the 60's (on vimeo) http://vimeo.com/9813214

I'm not sure but near the end of the video there's some brief clips from a football match.
Cumbernauld Utd v Celtic maybe??
A little digging throws up this...http://www.celticprogrammesonline.com/P ... d6768a.htm

I'm not a Celtic man BTW. Just saying.

Nice post from BTJustice on the Past Present Vol 2 thread whereby he took some pics from inside Abronhill High, it's amazing how it looks unchanged from 35 years ago. I work evenings and so couldn't go but I know someone who did go and she mentioned the same thing in that it was exactly like she remembered it all those years ago. She also mentioned how better equipped it was compared to that relic that is Cumbernauld High, still cuts me up this crap decision and I think it's a defining moment for me as regards political parties. It'll be too much to expect another chance to see inside for those who missed it last week, I'm sure I can still navigate around the three floors.

Cheers mjw, it was a friend who used to go to the school that tipped me off about the open night and then helped me locate the scenes I was looking for. Maybe my secondary school was a big building (Kings park secondary) but Abronhill felt like quite a small building to me.

As they fit here as well, here is the link to my gregory's girl album on flickr;

I have been working on a documentary film about Gregory's girl and as part of the project I was granted access to the high school on Friday. The keys were due to be handed over to the demolition crew at 5pm that night so this should be the last chance to get a look but we may get back in next week.

Amazing how much stuff is still in the school;

Excellent Dave and sad to see it go.
Actually worked with a bloke who was one of the extra's in the film as he was at the school at the time.
You can see him in the background when they are all watching the lassie demonstrate her football skills.
He advocated for the weak against the strong, the poor against the rich and labour against capital.
