I didn't know that existed :)

The archway looks like a cellar door, the ground floor entrance portico (which survives down near the House for an Art Lover) would have been on top of the existing stairs which take you down into the sunken area.

Actually, I think the entrance portico comes from Ibroxhill House, not Bellahouston House. I will try and check that the next time I'm up there.

That's the shade of Sir Theophilius Orbe, the former owner of Bellahouston House. He haunts what was the basement, where the servant girls were wont to flash a comely ankle, in the days leading up to Christmas bonus time.

Councillor Patrick Dollan (who later became Lord Provost) shows Rangers and Celtic players around the site of the Empire Exhibition.

Such harmony!

and with Bill Struth as a manager so would today's lot. He did not have to fight tea ladies to show he meant business.

I've got an Empire Exhibition glass too and it's got the Tait Tower on it! But it's a transfer, not an engraving. Don't really want to sell it though.

Hi first time on, though I've been "lurking" for a while.
After reading this thread last week I picked up this item at a car boot outside Worcester on Sunday. The image isn't great, sorry.
The text on one side is, "The Steamship Brand-Spices-made only by Stewart and Young- Glasgow" and on the other "Souvenir Scottish National Exhibition"
Didn't bother trying to knock the price down (5p) but wondered when this "Scottish National Exhibition" took place. Was it '51?

According to this pop up plagued site

http://members.fortunecity.com/gillonj/scottishnationalexhibition/index.html#

The Scottish National Exhibition was held in Saughton Park, Edinburgh in 1908. The aims of the Exhibition were to exemplify all that was best in Art, Science, Literature and Industry from 'His Majesty's Dominions'. The North British Railway Company built a new station on the main line adjoining the Exhibition, to bring the many thousands of visitors from Edinburgh's Waverley Station.

We're in the stickiest situation since Sticky the Stick Insect got stuck on a sticky bun.
