Couple of photos of Ashton Lane requiring a present-day comparison photo.

Looks like the car reggie is from about 1967, but I may be wrong, so I'll defer to any car historians out there. Looks to me like this could've been taken sometime in the early 80s/late 70s.

Wont be a '67. Too early for Golfs. Looks like a Y which is about 1983.

Ladyloan Shops. Past shot from robertpool's Drumchapel post. The present is from 2006, there's new housing on the left now.

Here are a few I have just about managed to do with my broken wrist.
The before pics of the castle were taken by my Dad. I have started going through some of his old slides.

And here is a before and after of the old dam just upstream of the snuff mill;

Ken,

You say there is now new housing on the left of your 2006 pic, but are the buildings on the right stiil shops.

I remember going early morning shopping up there with my mum in the late 1950's. Not bad in summer but cold as hell in winter and the climb up Achamore Road from Kinfauns Drive (we lived in Airgold Drive) was an absolute killer !

Yes, a mixture of shops and offices, a solicitor, etc, it's all new build. The old shops with flats above were a magnet for copper thieves.
Aye that hill's a killer I remember it well, I even had to climb it to take those pictures. That's not something I was keen to repeat ::):

Used to spend a fair bit of time playing there myself. I was shocked to see how much has dissapeared in the last few years, it was about twice the length 10 years ago.
Same with the dam further up, I remember walking from one side of the river to the other on top of the dam but no chance now;

Thanks for the reply. Ken.

Mum's choice was those shops or another set of shops which, from memory, were just off Kinfauns Drive at the other end of the scheme. If we went there we had to climb Ardhu Place, the end of Cally Avenue and Past St Pius' Church to get onto Kinfauns Drive and head right. I can't remember the exactl place where those shops were !

Banjo, I'm aware that Airgold Drive has finally been completely flattened. Going from Kinfauns Drive, 17 was on the right just past Ardhu Place and those tenements were the last to be pulled down.

Since starting explorations on the net I have been in regular contact with a guy called Willie McLoughlin who used to live at 14 Airgold Drive.

I went to St Sixtus' School (the main school on Kinfauns Drive and both of its annexes, one off Ledmore Drive Wher I started school, and the other on Airgold Drive opposite Camus Place Primary School) from early 1955 until leaving for Australia at the end of 1960.

Thanks for the contact to both of you !
