Thanks Monument! When I was up there the other month I was racking my brain to try to remember what that new building had been.

The original Cathkin Park in Govanhill in 1895 hosting the Glasgow Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers.

Did a bit of research on the old ground earlier this month as part of a future 'lost grounds' thread update. It is less than surprising that only a handful of original Glasgow football grounds remain with many given over to other developments down the years. There are still some hidden gems out there though! :D

This is on FB - wonder if it belongs to anyone here?

On the first pic ...what was the purpose of the rails on the corner of the roof?

On the second pic- was that Hendersons, butchers on the left corner of the lane?

It could very well have been a lookout post of sorts. I believe this building was at one time the premises of Barr & Stroud, makers of optical instruments such as rangefinders for military use. A platform on the roof of the building would have been ideal for outdoor testing purposes.

Well, it was more than 7 years ago! I'd completely forgotten about my previous post on the subject.

My husband's been glued to this thread all weekend and keeps showing me all your shots. It's pretty interesting how the city has changed over the years (and not for the better in a few cases). I've been interested in local history for years and read a fair bit. I think he's got the bug too. Good work! If he no longer goes 'yes dear' when I tell him a local fact, it's down to you lot :D

Finished another wee film location then and now set. This time I used Trainspotting as source;

The rest (the Edinburgh pics) are over on my Flickr if interested.

Couldn’t resist having a go at some of these, thanks to iangr on the other place for the originals and inspiring me to get out with my camera and visit bits of Glasgow I wouldn’t normally get to.
