I passed by that part of Gordon St on Friday, that corner stinks of piss. I'm amazed the people who hang about there anyway.

Was just down there earlier today. The area just seems a magnet for jakies and neds. Not a great impression of Glasgow for visitors.

It would be interesting to see a photo of that Gordon Street building before the James McIntyre shop was put in front of the arches.

I've had a good look but can't find one for you.

Wow 8O

(Is it just me who gets a bit disturbed when the 'past' photos are from times I recognise?)
All the world seems in tune on a Spring afternoon, when we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

I know! Scarey eh!?

Not that long ago, you could walk straight up there you'd come out at Buchanan Bus Station.
Remember that crappy old waste ground they used as a carpark? I'm sure there was a derelict pub just sat in the middle of it all. I think it was Cunningham St and an old bit of Parli Road(?) That area was a pure dump before they built the Galleries/John Lewis. Easy to forget how bad it was. You took you're life in your hands walking through there late at night.

Bar 82
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Any reason for 82? was it a reference to a date or just a street number? If I remember correctly it was one of those that they demolished everything around it but left it standing, presumably because they wouldn't buy the owners out and just hoped by removing there customers it would close on it's own accord! Does anyone have a photo?

Brilliant guys! Yes Bar 82, I'm sure that was it. A picture would be brilliant if anyone has one(?)
I was never in it but passed by it hundreds of times in the early 90's.
That older thread makes interesting reading - thanks Dexter!
