And Finally a Google Earth Map of the Site in operation:-

Any other site's like this chemical or industrial, Because of the sites unusual location and swampland like surroundings it hasn't been developed yet and has been empty for a while now so I don't see much happening in the future.

I am also unable to find out the name of the company which owned the site and what they actually produced the only thing that identifies it is a sign in the Forge Retail Park which points to Chemical Works (Private Road).

:)

I hope you were not in there on your own, Alex, looks well seedy not to mention dangerous.

It's N.W. of the Forge.

Here's another (older) view from flashearth.

Excellent photos BTW Alex.

Access to the site is only available from a road behind the B&Q in the Forge Retail Park, A wee bit of puddle jumping is needed but it isn't that hard to get into.

I was there on my own. It was a bit creepy but I didn't try climbing anything and kept to the solid ground, A fox in a bush did make me S**t myself but otherwise it was o.k.

Thanks for the concern HH.

And Cheers AMcD. :)

You need to be careful Alex in case you have an accident. Always make sure someone knows where you are and what time you are expected back when doing solo UE.

Having said that I was always wandering around derelict buildings on my own but we all know better now.

It looks like a fascinating place, I am down that way a lot (B&Q   ) and will have a look once the weather clears up a bit.

Cheers

John

RCAHMS has several chemical works listed with images on line. I think that this is the one through the bridge from the site Smartalex visited

The works are at 694 Duke Street and were opened in 1851 by John Garroway and were known as the Netherfield Chemical Works. The site was vacated a couple of years ago when the firm moved to grangemouth

Try John Hume's book 'The Industrial Archaeology of Glasgow'. For anyone interested in Glasgow's industrial past this is a must. Out of print now and can be pricey (circa £25) second hand.
