I've said this before Alex in 'the other place' but that shot (and it's companions over the firewall) would make super night shots.

Superb effort.

Thank you Invy, Robbo and Doorstop for your kind words.

There is a comparison shot from last year on an earlier page. I think it may have been taken at a different angle. Aslo a night shot from last year.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a later shot this year and don't know if I will be able to get in later to get a night shot this year. (Family commitments)

For those who haven't seen the other photos here are more of the same. Plus some other photos taken least weekend.

I quite like the new LED curtains in George Square, and I even still nurture a wee fondness for the big bells; they're like old friends nowadays. The angels on top of the lamposts are also looking a lot better since they stopped trying to light them with UV only. But overall, the Square is a big garish mess of competing stuff with no overall design, and is completely overshadowed by the huge advertising banners and giant LED screens on the old Post Office building - just ghastly.
I quite like the LED curtains in Sauchiehall Street - simple and understated.

There are two short films on Glasgow at Christmas from the sixties available at Pathe. Bit of a bugger to get the free versions, you have to give them some details but well worth persevering with.

I only wish that the council had hired the LED screens and advert space on the GPO building and used it rather like the ones in Buchanan St etc with council stuff on it over the christmas time, or like the community lamp-post thing in Argyle St with videos of kids singing / childrens Christmas art on it. The big advert space could have had a big 'Happy Christmas from GCC' type banner or been projected onto.

IIRC there is still one more christmas with the hoardings up, so be nice for GCC to use it well for Winterfest[sic] 2008 .

Or the council could come to a deal like they appear to with the owners of buildings in Royal Exchange Square as regards the attaching of christmas decorations. that way the council decorations coiuld be hung from these buildings and achieve a sense of the square being decorated rather than there being decorations in the centre of the square which did not involve the buildings.

How would i be able to preserve a doughnut for a decoration? I got one of those pink doughnuts from the Simpsons Movie today at 7-11, because they still make them at mine, and I was wondering if their was a spray to preserve it. In second grade i was able to preserve a bagel and decorate it and still have it today, but i dont know what the teacher used to preserve it. I did buy stuff called Clear Acrylic Sealer from Walmart in the Arts and Crafts aisle, and it is like spray paint. I want to know if this would work.
