This allows a computer generated 'simulatoir'; to be created so you can tell if different classes of trains can go down a track without resorting to trial and error.

Cheers Dave, would never have imagined thats what it was for, thanks :)

I saw it the other day just outside Newton Station, although I couldn't tell from where I was whether it was on the Argyle or the Kirkhill line.

No pics, alas, was driving at the time!

Not quite, It's our structure gauging train that does that, see the link below.

The unit above (Lab 19 Iris 2) is used to carry out radio surveys on the network, when up here it works out of Motherwell and can be seen stabled at the back of B&Q, see the link below for more info,

Caught this one going through Shettleston Station. It has been through the station before but I wasn't quick enough to get a shot.

Some pictures of Central Station from 1965.

The destination board had a colour scheme for suburban routes, green for deisels (platforms 4 & 5) and blue for electric trains (platforms 7 &8).

Don't remember the colour coding. It's actually possible to make out most of the destinations if you blow it up:

3 - East Kilbride
4 - Hamilton Circle via Blantyre
5 - Hamilton Circle Via Bellshill (Front Train)
6 - ?
7 - Cathcart Outer
8 - Cathcart Inner
10 - Kilmacolm
11 - Ayr, change at Dalry for Largs

A lot of the trains still run at about the same times!

On a side not, thats the rebranding of the network started, the SPT is being removed as transport scotland now are the main players in the railways for timetabling etc.

First station to get the new branding is Queens Park

The link below takes you to Jonathon McGurks fotopic site of the new look signs etc, Jonathon is a guy who travels on the trains a lot, and is quite knowledgeable.

I think with the closure of the circle it gave TS and First the chance to get ahead, also doing Alexandria (wonder how long till that gets vandalised?)

The end of SPT is nigh, bring on the 'new' blue trains ::):

New trains bring 9,000 more seats

A £180m fleet of electric trains will be introduced on the Scottish rail network.

Siemens will supply 130 new carriages, providing 9,000 more seats, which will be brought into use by the end of 2010.

Finance Secretary John Swinney announced the deal, which will see 134 jobs created to operate and maintain the fleet and the expanded depots.

The trains will operate mainly in the west of Scotland and on the forthcoming Glasgow Airport rail link

About bloody time for the Glasgow Airport link its provision has taken far, far too long. Now if they can do the same thing to Prestwick airport and provide inter connectivity between all ie Glasgow airport, Glasgow and Prestwick airport we will have moved forward. They have taken far too long dithering all the way.
