Used to be Barnhill Poorhouse, with over 2000 inmates. See http://www.institutions.org.uk/workhouses/scotland/barnhill_workhouse.htm

I was brought up right next to it, used to run about inside its ruins as a kid it was huge. the land is all houses now. the surrounding wall is still there. Our back garden led right up to it. And we used to pay football on the bowling green.

I also remember it as an old folks home, in 1971 anyway.
I seem to remember a suggestion that it was the site of the local "poor house".
