The picture is of Pinkston Power station that was opened in 1901 to power the then newly electrified Glasgow Corporation Tram system as well as the Glasgow Underground raiway system from 1935 and the trolley buses from 1948 to 1967.The power station was taken over by the South of Scotland Electricity Board about 1957. The cooling tower that was the largest in Europe was built in 1954 and blown up or rather down in 1977 along with the large twin chimneys.
