As with the wee ones at the base of the pillars on the South side, I thought it looked far better as an outline before they got the Dulux out (i.e. in aye69's photo).

Whats hidden behind them griles is what i've often wonderd ? are the pillars hollow or solid ?

I helped do that, was in 3rd-4th year at hyndland and we all got a part to do. They spelt my name wrong cause i have such poor handwriting. you can almost see my name on that pic .

There was a talk about the bridge at Doors Open Day last year, with the presenter showing a video walkthrough of what's inside and there is a surprising amount of empty space!

Nice capture - given the angle, not an easy one!

As to Hawthorn - there's a wee park-type area between Bardowie Street and Hawthorn Street, opposite "The Jungle", which appears to have had hawthorn bushes growing there at one time. Might it be something to do with that?
