Today And Tomorrow

The most popular topic on HG would appear to be past and present.

So here is a companion for that topic.

Post your photos of sites as they are today that you know are intended for redevelopment in the near future. It would be helpful if you put your location so that if you don't manage to get the updated shot others may be able to.

Here are a couple of sites within the Nitshill area that I know are intended for new developments within the next couple of years. All the photos were taken from the 12th floor of the flats at 415 Nitshill Road.

The site of the new non denominational school at Househillmuir Primary School.

The site of the new denominational school at St Bernard's RC Primary School.

The old Jackie Connor's Petrol Station site where a new mixed development is planned.

The shed at the rear is the Glasgow museum's Resource Centre where phase 2 should start later next month.

Do you know of any sites that are planned for redevelopment?

I'm assuming they were taken from the Whifflet train.... if you are going towards mount vernon and follow the road up, behind some trees and a hill, you'll see the corrigated iron roofs of the stands

Yes it's the old road to Mount Vernon race track. Known locally as the Serpents Twist.

They plan to link both buildings. Relocate the library. Improve the gym. Include other services.

There have been some delays but work should start soon.

One thing that won't change dispite local protests is the leisure pool. This will remain as it is. There is a desire for a 25m pool but no budget to deliver it.

The pool is only around 17 years old so I can see the dispute about there being no need to renovate the building but I would have thought they would have done some exterior work just to bring it up to date with the newer buildings surrounding it.

I still remember a contest in my Primary school (Leithland) which you could win a place at the opening of the pool I came in fourth in the contest so lost my chance to meet the Queen at the opening, the place was won by a classmate of mine (Julie Stewart) who got the day off school to attend the day, and be one of the first children to swim in the new complex.

Alex

You must have picked me up wrong.

The exterior will be improved its the interior of the leisure pool that won't change. Although it may get some outstanding repairs.

It must have been disappointing to you not being able to get the day off school.
