About time I started this. Pillar Boxes round the city.

First up Single Boxes: E.R, G.R, V.R and Royal Mail. etc
Double Boxes Ingram Street, George Sqoare, Glassford Street, Trongate etc.
Wall Mouted: Three in Cambuslang and one in East kilbride Imbedded into the house wall. (Ronnie will explain about these)

Also, new style there is one in the High Street and on London Road just up from the PP...
So can we, if we are out and about try and spot any unusual types and get street names and locations

and BTW how did the post office work out where and how far a part the boxes would be :?: :?

heres some pictures

A wall mounted one which is no longer with us, was in deepest Kelvindale (Linsay Drive I believe) until some pillock crashed his car into it. The Post Office decided not to replace it to the chagrin of the local residents including my dear old gran. As I remember, the protest made the somewhere-in-the-first-half pages of the Glasgwegian

Hrm, there are loads of nice ones here in Bonkle and down in Wishaw. I'll snap a couple next time I'm passing.

...and the one at the top of Byres Road.
I seem to remember the sign on top being for Glasgow on the left and All Other Mail on the right, is that correct?

Image

Also noticed the box in Central station still has its 'Nearest Post Office is...' sign on top. Must snap it next time!

There is one of them inside Central Station, the Gordon Street entrance.

Is it true that there are no EIIR boxes in Scotland as the SNLA were blowing them up as she was not the second Elizabeth up here. I heard they were replaced with boxes with just a crown on it. Does anyone know if this is true or is it just an urban myth.

Cheers

I would expect that the SNLA have affected nothing, never mind getting the EIIR boxes removed.

Maybe it was not the SNLA as it was in the fifties, but I can't remember seeing any EIIR boxes.
