LODGE HOUSE, CATHCART CEMETERY
1116. Under reference to the Minute of Meeting of 2 October 2003 (Page 304, Item 182
refers), there was submitted report by the Director of Central Services, a copy of which had been issued previously to each Member, submitting for consideration a proposal to lease the Lodge House at Cathcart Cemetery to James Steele of Bowen Therapy for the purposes of a centre for holistic research.

Having referred to a number of letters of support the Council had received for the project, the report proposed entering into an agreement with Mr Steele to enable him to develop his centre for holistic research, and highlighted that if approved, it was proposed to lease the building to Mr Steele on terms and conditions which reflected the fact that he would require to spend a very substantial amount of money to render it operational for his purposes.

The report concluded by emphasising that any lease arrangement would be constructed on the basis that the Council, in due course, would seek to benefit from the improved condition of the property.
The Cabinet, having heard the Director of Central Services highlight that Mr Steele would be required to obtain planning permission for his proposal and, although not a listed building, he would be expected to retain as much of the original building as possible, agreed:-
(a) to lease Lodge House, Cathcart Cemetery to Mr James Steele for the
purposes of a holistic research centre; and
(b) that it be remitted to the Director of Central Services to negotiate the terms of
the lease
