Aye that one looks like Queens Park to me. Only about 6 miles out Mori. Were you a Luftwaffe Bomber Pilot in the War? ::):

I went to the free festivals in years 1971-72, and remember seeing the likes of Eric Cuthbertson, Up, and Northwind (the original Northwind). I took some photos but they're long gone, and frustratingly I can't find the negs.

The only surviving photo, from 1971:-

Does anyone remember or have any photos of the punk picnics that were on at the bandstand in the late eighties, I seem to remember a bit of a rammy in Kelvin Way with the police and some pictures in the sunday mail after one well lubricated saturday

Yeh, that is Queens park bandstand, the big give away is that Kelvingrove doesn't have tenement buildings at the back of the bandstand as there is a PARK there!

My comment was meant to be for the pic a few pages back showing a photo of a completely different bandstand with streets and tenement buildings in the background i.e. Queens park. not the pic above which is obcvously Kelvingrove.

Bandstand revival comes step closer

Image

A PLAN to restore the historic bandstand in Kelvingrove Park has been given a £60,000 cash injection.
It is one of a range of environmental projects to benefit from a £700,000 boost from Glasgow City Council.
The council is allowed to give a percentage of the cash it is due to pay in landfill tax to local organisations.
Since the scheme was launched, the council has distributed about £8million to more than 100 projects.

Whats the betting that this £60,000 will be spent on paying consultants to come up with a way of raising money to refurbish the banstand .

In 83 or 84 the headline act was Chasar (a rush-inspired band who later got a record deal - their vinyl is quite collectable) and the bill also contained Glasgow (melodic rock band named after their home town because "it was alright for Boston and Chicago"), H2O (very poor pop group who had a single hit with "Hollywood Dream") and the mighty Dolphins (fronted by Campbell Forbes, the most under-rated singer-songwriter to ever come out of Glasgow, IMHO).

The day was hosted by Tom Russell and it was the first time most of us had seen him. Needless to say, every quiet second was filled with "baldy" chants...

Most of those names ring a bell, and I definitely remember being shocked at Tom Russell being baldy :-)

Another band I remember from round about then was called The Royal Family. They played a song that had something to do with Castro, and they were a bit different. Does anyone else remember them?

Those recent photies of the bandstand are terrible. It's sad when they let old buildings that go to ruin.

Tim the bass player can be found in the State bar every other Tuesday.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.
