Good question...i'm going to e-mail the Maritime Museum today and see what they can do.....

They're on a show called "Industrial Revelations" (With Mark Williams of Fast Show fame). Keep a look out for it again if you missed it, good stuff.

A FORMER Glasgow landmark was lost when it was decided the SV Carrick could not be restored. The clipper's demise fuelled fears the city is losing links with its proud maritime heritage despite a new Transport Museum.

Bid to dismantle historic clipper

One of Britain's most historic ships could be dismantled because too much money is needed to restore it.
The 140-year-old clipper, The Carrick, has been rotting away on the quayside at the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine, Ayrshire, for 15 years.

It would cost at least £10m to restore The Carrick

Maybe if the Scottish Maritime Museum had put some kind of covering over the Carrick they may have been able to preserve it.

That's what the grey stuff is in the pics, Mags....it's a vinyl (sp) covering to prevent water ingress much like is used in flat roofing.

The ship had been through a lot the last 30 years and unfortunatley the lack of finance has took it's toll and the situation is where it is today.

I'll get some video footage up of me onboard again.

Instead of the structured and recorded dismantling suggested elsewhere; what about a big torchlight procession through the Irvine and, if anyone can resist the temptation to set fire to the shopping centre, an Up Helly A type fire festival (with gadgies in stead of guizers), where they burn the ship (assuming it'll will catch fire) with lots singing, dancing and general merry-making; followed by a fertility ceremony on Ardeer beach?

It could probably get support from VisitScotland and the Scottish Arse Council. Since its sorta in Burns Country they could invite thon career ressurectionist Eddi Reader wumman along to murder a few songs and suggest she stay on the ship as it burns.

All in all a good evening's w*rk, eh?
