They're at the old site of Alexander Stephens shipyard in Linthouse, Fairfields has survived as BAE Govan, I served my time there 1961-66.

I've a notion my Dad working at Fairfield in the early 60's. He'd been with David Rowan Engineering (opposite Betty's Bar) in Elliot Street till Fairfield bought Rowans to become Fairfield Rowan and later he used the passenger ferry to travel to the sou' side.

He was never happy about that

Was he an engine fitter? I had 2 palls that came over from Rowans.
I sailed on an ex Regent tanker that had a Rowan Doxford engine in the early 70's, had been built 1959/60 as the Regent Falcon, it was the Texaco Durham when I was on it.

That would have been the time the government were trying to close Fairfields down and it changed it's name to Fairfields (Glasgow) Ltd
