Why "sadly"? Do these men not deserve to be commemorated?

Or is it two recent deaths? If so, that would explain the sadness and so I apologise.

One of the Marines was a friend of mine and lived here in Blanefield.
It's sad because he died!!!!

There was a brilliant turn out at Glasgow Cathedral and also at Blanefield Parish Church. We all then has a big piss-up in the pub. His comrades were a brilliant bunch of lads.http://tinyurl.com/25nncj

A while back I mentioned a memorial in a park in Dalmuir West that had been retrieved in recent years from the old Beardsmore works. This memorial was with respect to remembering the meritorious service of certain Beardsmore employees during the Great War. I say retrieved in recent years, because it was retrieved from rubble left over from the bombing, I think, in the 1941 Clydebank Blitz. I just wonder if anyone has ever come across this memorial, or was I just dreaming about having seen it.

Nice one Fos

I don't think you have posted this one on this thread before. There is a similar one in Central Station.

The website is a link to a real life Mount Florida love story. Arthur Sloan whose name on the war memorial meets Margaret. Arthur leaves Mount Florida to go to war, Margaret eventually leaves Mount Florida to emigrate to the United States to join her Father. Meanwhile Arthur is in England preparing to head for France .

Tragically, Arthur and his brother Andrew and also Margaret's brother Guy, did not return from the War, they were all killed with many of their friends in various battlefields across Europe.

I had heard of the Mount Florida "Gang" before, who were a group of young men who all grew up together in Mount Florida and who all fought in WW1. It is fascinating to read Arthur's letters from a bygone age. Sadly this is a story which was repeated hundreds of thousands of times during "The War to end all Wars".

Great pictures DL, it's a relief to get confirmation that I wasn't dreaming. The tablets appear to be in much better condition than when I saw them back about 1988. There were as I recall, more damage to the tablets than appear in your pictures. Thank you very much for posting them. cheers, Dugald.

There is one on the wall of a modern block of flats in Raeberry St. It was taken from inside the church at 92 Raeberry St.
Well if we hit anything today, we'll hit it hard
