That was always rumoured to be a vent for a tunnel...well thats how the rumours went when i was in aberdeen!!! Although i remeber it maybe having abiger base on it...and looking at the picure it not really looking like it would ventilate anything...maybe im thinking of another one of these sort of things? (it was a long time ago....)

I was wondering if it was a Victorian sewer vent, like the ones you get in London (can't remember where I read about them). It's very ornate if it is though.
