So their new window openings end up smaller than originally intended. Apparently they weren't thrilled.
A reasonable result, I suppose (not least because I have to wonder how long lovely stained glasswork would last), but it's a long way from traditional shop fronts. I won't be patronising the shop.

And they've been going to an awful lot of trouble to pretend they were boxing the glass in if they really weren't. The relevant person at the council told us the planning permission was with the condition that the old shop front parts were preserved, but that's not a lot of good since no-one stands there and makes sure it's done, and no-one will know if the old stuff is still there or not till the next person does a refit.

Doesn't look like this one will be around for much longer. It must be one of the oldest shop fronts on GWR. Am I right in thinking they used have two shops on GWR? I remember thinking it was a cool shop when I was a kid, gone are the days when your old man would grind valves and change big ends on the famly hillman imp!
Cheers

It looked to me like the glass was boarded back up. Granted, I don't always pay too much attention, but I do walk past it nearly every day, and I got the same impression that the old shop front & windows is still under there...
