I live in a 1903 tenement which was refurbished 12 yrs ago (just prior to me moving in). Each close in the street has a unique colour scheme, i.e they painted over all the tiling with cheapo paint, ruining the unique character of the close.
Looking at these pictures makes me want to speak to the other residents in our close and see if we can restore what is under the hideous sky blue paint.

And, slightly off topic, a display of Hibs memorabilia I found in a schemie flat in Inverkeithing!

Nice pics. One of my mates stayed in a flat in Nairn Street, Yorkhill (I think). Every flat in the close had a different stained glass scene on its front door.

Hi Ally Doll,

Great picture of the windows, pity the cheapskate landlord/Owner did not replace with something appropriate. I wonder if the planning authority would have anything to say on such matters.

What street is the close in and I will try and find out?

It's at Dumbarton Road at Partick Cross. The quality of the paintings on the windows vary, I think they've been replaced over time. Also, the seasons don't all match up!

Some of the flats have great doors too, I'll see if I can snap some later (the storm doors are often closed over).

For some reason painted scenes on tiles always makes me wistful; especially if they are nautical or coastal in nature like lighthouses, shells, wee sailing boats, buckets and spades.

I dont know why this is but for me it represents a simple, perhaps unrealised dream of an easy life, happy times. Mayse it says something about our society but I'm sure these tiles are making a comeback for toilets and kitchens.
