I hope they dont employ the same firm that did the last demolition in the Gorbals. I think 150 yards is a bit close to stand next to a building that is being blown up.The poor woman that was killed did't stand a chance. :(
...........Although I have just thought of a cure for Glasgows Ned problem....."Top floor there, free Buckfast..Step right this way"..........
BOOM.........Problem solved. :D

pics of the queenie flats being blown up would be good. I was there that day and was standing next to the primary school thinking - this is a bit bloody close! We moved back to the cash and carry and still got covered in dust.

Was going out with a guy from the housing at the time and he got me into the exclusion zone afterwards, was like a scene out of threads with all the white dust lying about.

Stirlingfaulds Place off Cumberland St , Mitchellhill in Castlemilk ( three blocks out of the five are being emptied) and Dalmarnock , the last two buildings.
I dont have any time scales so I would suggest that you watch the press.
Having said all that it will not be this year, I am positive of that.
Anyone interested in photos of the blowing up of the Queen Elizabeth flats in Gorbals and the two at Dalmarnock?
Norrie

Is there any chance you would have foties of the block in Coll place in Germiston and 240 Royston Hill, Garngad being blown up?? :)

Can anyone give me a rough date when these were demolished? :)

I would require some-one with some nouse & clout on the site to contact me to arrange provision of these details.

I also have some pics of that would be of interest to the site too (regarding many other matters....but need some one to accept/post them)

Cheers!

Well, basically yes to all of the above!!!

240 Roystonhill was demolished on either Sunday 21st June or
Sunday 28th June 1992 - I lived quite close to it at the time and
watched it from my bedroom window :) Quite spectacular, seeing
a 24-storey eyesore come tumbling down.

Coll Place - dunno when, but I'd say it was at least a year later. I dont
recall much of a media song and dance about Coll Place, whereas with
240 Roystonhill the meeja were swarming all over the gaff. Might have
been one of the first such demolitions in Glasgow?

Even though I live in the same street it was not until last night that I saw the light show properly, and it really is quite specatular. It counts down from ten and it all kicks off. This was at 8pm so I don't know if it repeats on the hour or what. But it is on till the 10th April so I'll try and see if I can get some good snaps or even some video footage.

Found this on the Scotsman website http://news.scotsman.com/glasgow.cfm?id=277622004 and it talks about the ideas behind it all

I have to scan them soon for another board so they will be in my system.

Photos recieved, (well some of them!) 'll try and get them put up on Sunday. A brand new project methinks, covering demolition... (of flats at least)...

I've got a little video clip of the light show that was happening in the Gorbals.

You can download it (its about 3.5mb)at...

http://www.soluis.com/steve/Gorbals_light_show.wmv

Not great quality I'm afraid but it will give you the idea of what was actually going on..
