Gorbals high flats light show

Postby cumbo » Wed Mar 24, 2004 10:13 pm

I have passed the high flats in Cumberland Street twice this week at night.
they have been empty for months, for redevelopment.First every light in the building was on and tonight the lights were all flashing in a running line up and down the whole building. It was amazing 20 floors of light display.
Who is behind this amazing show???
Evan if you dont know,go and see this.
If I have got a Council spark into bother sorry :?: 8O

There was an article in the Evening Times a week or so ago about that block of flats getting a lightshow. It's only temporary as it's getting demolished later this year.
So feast yer eye's folks, when its gone its Gone!

PS: They should have did this in October when the long nights are setting in not the week before the clocks go forward. Must have been surplus cash left over in the cooncil budget being the end of the fiscal year and all that. Perhaps I'm just a little too cynical :?:

I was hoping they'd do what the Russians did once, and hook the lights up to play Tetris!

I know the company PERSONALLY who have been involved in several high profile lighting shemes in Glasgow of the kind that has been discussed on here (water towers etc) I also have pics of one particular development and would be in a position to provide other information/details /pics of lighting co's forthcoming attractions.

I would require some-one with some nouse & clout on the site to contact me to arrange provision of these details.

I also have some pics of that would be of interest to the site too (regarding many other matters....but need some one to accept/post them)

Cheers!

I work for Glasgow Housing Asc, If anyone is interested there will be further demolition of high rise flats in Glasgow over the next few years.
Stirlingfaulds Place off Cumberland St , Mitchellhill in Castlemilk ( three blocks out of the five are being emptied) and Dalmarnock , the last two buildings.
I dont have any time scales so I would suggest that you watch the press.
Having said all that it will not be this year, I am positive of that.
Anyone interested in photos of the blowing up of the Queen Elizabeth flats in Gorbals and the two at Dalmarnock?

Emmar, you are right, it is the two blocks that have not been refurbished that are being demolished.

The two blocks that are being retained are having new kitchens fitted.
I wonder why it wasnt done at the same time as the rest of the refurbishment?
