Five postage stamps pictured in the May 1993 issue of the Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin. They were issued to commemorate the 14th World Orchid Conference at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in April 1993. Collecting stamps featuring orchids is a speciality catered for by organisations such as the Orchid Stamp Club International and the Orchidcover Collector Club.

Why not design and print our very own HG stamp with Royal Mail Smart Stamp.
Really simple to do.

Stamps issued by the USSR in 1979 to honour John MacLean (1879 -1923). The above scanned stamps are from the first sheet issued in 1979 and came with a letter of authentication from the Kremlin to the Scotland - USSR Society.

The then Scotland - USSR Society was instrumental in 1979 in suggesting to its contacts in Moscow that John MacLean should be honoured.

Included in the Society's archive file on the stamp issue are letters from Nan Milton (nee MacLean) - John MacLean's daughter giving details for the various arrangements between the Scotland - USSR Society and the John MacLean Society for Press Releases, events etc around the time of the stamps issue in 1979.

The original artwork for the stamp is held in the Mitchell Library in the Scotland - USSR Society archive.

I have been informed on good authority that these are known within the Philatelic community as 'Bananas' many of the "Banana" republics sell their Philatelic Depts to a few international dealers who will put absolutely anything on a stamp, so much so there is even a Rangers version, though I believe that has 4 stamps.

These stamps have probably never been near Grenada but officially they are legal if you want to go all the way to the Caribbean to use them.

PS My contact says if anyone wanted to get there hands on the product let me know and I can put you on to a dealer.

:)

A postman was appointed by the Glasgow Council in 1630. While the Post Office in Glasgow may have been established in 1662 there is no record of the appointment of a Postmaster till 1674.

daily mail

Take a close look at that shiny new 20p piece in your purse or pocket - it could be worth a lot more than you think.
A rare error at the Royal Mint means that tens of thousands of the coins produced earlier this year don't have 2009 stamped on them.
Coin experts say the lack of a date makes them worth £50 each, and potentially much more in future.

I've got one, but the best thing was looking up on ebay and finding all the 'new' 20p's that had thier dates filed off to be called dateless
Hmmm I wonder what happens if i press that lever.... Ahh It operates that shiny new plug socket!
