Does any one have any knowledge of a swimming baths in Woodlands Road? I believe it was situated within the car showroom just before Lynedoch Street. The showroom front itself is quite compact with room for about ten cars but in the back there is a massive area with the balcony and it has all the appearance of a swimming pool. The chap working in the place told me it was baths but could offer no further info.Ive also drawn a blank and would be interested in any info.

This was the first "Swimming" I went to...My dad - born and bred Kinning Park man would often take us here to the pool in the early 70's..before it was demolished for the M8.

Yeah I learned to swim there too. Used to go to a club run by Mr. Brown twice a week late 60's

Nice to find photos of this pool on the site - i played the errmm, 'starring role' in a music promo which was shot in these baths about five years ago now. I do have one copy of the promo on VHS in storage which i've been meaning to convert but i also have some mad photos of it which i'll try and dig out if anyone is interested.[/quote]
Good photos you got here, so this is the new outlook of an interior of the swimming pool after of many years, I think they are ready again to use these facilities.

Pool campaigners to spend £2m on community centre

24 Aug 2010

Plans to revamp an Edwardian swimming baths have taken a step forward.

Govanhill Community Baths Trust has spent the past nine years attempting to raise £12.5 million to turn the long-closed pool into a community centre.
But the current financial climate has caused the campaign to founder – and bosses have had to pare back their plans.
Now the group will refurbish the baths in two phases, with the first costing £1m to £2m.
The trust hopes it will finally be able to reach its goal of creating a centre which will be of benefit to the local Govanhill community.

Hi all,

it's been really interesting reading about all your fond memories of the Steamies. I'm doing some research looking at how Glaswegians would feel if we had to introduce a modern version of a Steamie to save on water and energy. How would you feel if this became a reality? back to the old days of bathing and washing your clothes in the same building as all your neighbors? Would you miss having hot water in your home?

Thanks,
Lottie
