I very recently watched the movie "The Steamie". If you can get past the fairly awful periodic singing in the movie, the banter and carry on between the women on washday was exactly what it was like, according to my Mum. I was too young to go with her back then.

There's a photo of Cranstonhill Baths (and steamie) on John Cooper's Anderston website http://www.anderston.ukpals.com/partthree47-48.htm

whiteinch baths and wash house

Postby norman mcnamee » Sun Feb 04, 2007 4:51 pm

I got permission to photograph Whiteinch Baths just before they were closed, all in Black and White.
If you are interested I will try and post them on the site.
They are not all scanned , just need to get my scanner connected again.

I hope this doesnt affect the gorgeous olde worlde baths at Woodside in the long term . They are not ultra modern I know but it is like stepping back into yr childhood again.in a way. Haven`t been for a couple of years, maybe make the effort soon.

Since the Maryhill Baths are not renovated yet i would doubt it.
Since the two Baths stood together open for years i would doubt it.
Since Maryhill is a good couple of miles from Woodside i would doubt it.

Ye but ...
They closed the baths at Netherton when Scotstoun was built and there was Whiteinch & Balshagray (closed & left to rot ) too all within a couple o miles or was that just co incidence and I was thinking, not in the immediate future but if they are gonnae spend money on an all singing, dancing new leisure centre just a couple of miles away wee , it would just be sad to see Woodside go, IMO

Thanks for these photos HH

This was the first place that my dad took me swiming as a kid. I remember having to get changed in small cubicles next to the pool.

These photos are great :D

My school used to have it's swimming competitions here and I won a few medals 8)

I also used to go often with my friends and afterwards we would go into a cafe (City Cafe ?) for a "chittery bite" which was a roll covered in lard and then pressed between two hotplates. They were brilliant but not very healthy
have I missed anything ???

Hi all
I've searched in here for photos of the Rutherglen swimming pool. I took some photos during the demolision but my phone broke and I lost them. Has anyone got any??
Anything on old Rutherglen and Burnside would be really interesting.

Thanks
Cheers all

Try The Virtual Mitchell site for photographs of Rutherglen and Burnside.
I dont think they will have any of the baths.
Try one of the Rutherglen forums, there are one or two, you should get some help from there.

The baths closed in 1993 but the building lives on as a snooker club.

My abiding memory of Dennistoun Baths as a child was that the heating was forever breaking down and the pond was always freezing.

I think the management evertually got the hint everyone was fed-up with it when they discovered a large polar bear on a block of ice floating in the middle of the pond - placed there by one of the members who was a rep for the company that produced FOX's Glacier Mints!
I was banned for being homophobic.

I've only ever been in the Dennistoun Baths/Club once and it was to wet the baby's head with my dad and brother in law. That baby grew up to be "Sydney Rosewater" my wee nephew ::):
